The player base in silencer is very "long". By that, I mean to run from one end to the other takes a while. What does everyone thing about making a smaller base? Maybe getting rid of the second room, kind of squashing everything down?
I know there is some strategy consideration with the long base, but to me it might not be worth the annoyance of having to spend all that time running around in base. Post your thoughts about the base size, and how you might shorten the base here. (This is actually going to be data used in the O2 remake project.) Thanks! -------------------- --R

Well, isnt that part of the "quest"? This is why you have the option to add defense to your base. I mean I could be wrong, it sometimes could be time consuming, but for the intruder it is the same.

earlsky, hello!
I think that is indeed part of the quest. However, there is essentially double the base width just for a ladder going down to the machines. (And the upper store, btw, anyone know why this is there? Is the upper platform for rocket evasion?) I think it can be shortened. Most of the surprise attack explosions happen on the very left of the base map, or hiding behind a object/pillar. I think that by shortening the base, we could probably justify it by adding another pillar(s) for dets to balance gameplay. (If this is needed at all?) I don't see why we shouldn't shorten it. I don't think the length should be cut in half, but making shorter wouldn't hurt anything. I would get rid of the upper store all it does is get in your way. If there were to be 2 places to buy your weapons I would think the second should be down with the machines at the bottom.
By the way, Good job RGB and Jackx keep up the good work and if you want more opinions about anything else just ask me I am full of them. |

It's going to be great. Most likely it should be next weekend when we release it. i think shortening the base would be fine. my first instinct was that the distance gives a chance for pursuers to eliminate you when you're carrying a secret, but in practice the distance almost never lends to that. i think adding another pillar could be a way to try and compensate, but i really think the current hiding places in the base are enough for dets, regardless of length. i also agree that half would be a bit much, but maybe just narrowing one or two of the rooms.
as far as the upper store goes, i have used it many times to buy the supplies i need to get rid of rets clogging up my lower store. moving it to the machine room downstairs would just allow for extra-lame det kills that would doubly impede you by destroying your tech. i know if you're good enough you won't have this problem, but we really shouldn't be tweaking this game to be less noob-friendly. the upper store gives confused, new players a chance to survive a ret infestation. |

I think the base length and store and all should stay the same. The length of the base and the time it takes you to return a secret, while annoying, DOES give enemies chances to steal the secret, and its not some thing that just happens once in a blue moon. Back in the day especially there were always many elaborate steal attempts set up in the secret carriers base and large battles that would be very much diminished if it were shorten, etc. Ive used the second store many times as well. The most use for that is when there are enemies in the base trying to steal your secret, and youre out of health pots or whatever, or just trying to kill you, or you turned the secret in and can get more weapons there to go to the front and attempt to kill them, etc etc etc.
Its akin to shortening PIT cause the ladders are too long |
