First off, let me say how fantastic it is to discover this game is back! I used to play long ago and was truly disappointed when it went away. I accidentally stumbled across this while doing some research on running something in Wine and it absolutely made my day.
However, I am trying to install the game on my Windows machine (I'll try it in Wine later) using Rgb9000's "REV B" .msi install package and it doesn't work. The installation starts to launch, but it just dies during the "Please wait while Windows configures Silencer Beta 110 Rev B" process. There are no error messages or anything, the installer just disappears. I checked my system logs and there are also no error messages there, but there are informational messages indicating that the configuration process did complete and that MsiInstaller service was successfully started. I also checked in task manager and msiexec.exe is running. Anyone have any ideas on this? On a side note, what's up with the lobby server? When will it be back up? -------------------- Cry 'Havoc' and let slip the dogs of War!

You can try downloading the other installer here: http://downloads.arsia-mons.com/sil0110.1.exe
You just need to change the target directory in the shortcut that it creates, or run the exe directly from the folder. |

I've tried installing the new MSI via WINE without luck, but the 0110.1 installer works okay.

What? This is the first I've heard of any problems. It ran fine in my test enviornment (W2K x86 VM). If you were expecting a GUI then you will be disappointed, this installer is optimized for speed and no-frills (NO FRILLS. No target directory, no "Are you sure" prompt, no eula, just click and go). After it runs to completion it should make a shortcut on your desktop and your startmenu. After you run the msi is the Silencer folder present under program files?
Has anyone else had better luck? A similar experience? Unless I hear of any problems I can only assume everything is hunky dory. I'll give it another look just to be sure. Edit: OK I just downloaded it again onto a fresh computer and checked it, it works fine for me. I've tested it under NT 5 and NT 5.1 32 bit (my target audience) and it installs quickly and easily. If you are running under WinNT 4 or 6, XPE, Win 95/98, ME, CE, DOS, BeOS, OS/2, Netware, OSX, ReactOS, Linux kernel version *.*, BSD, wine, a virtual machine or emulation program of some kind, or any kind of 64 bit anything, you will be out of my scope of support... but I wish you the best of luck. Ah, I see. It would have been nice to know that before I ran the install multiple times, I was expecting something to at least tell me the install was successful/complete. Perhaps an FYI explaining the installer method on the download page would help. Had I known this info, I wouldn't have used that installer in the first place, I never install games on my C: drive in Windows, I use a separate partition for that.
However, it only created a shortcut in the start menu, there is no desktop shortcut. There are also a couple of new shortcuts in the Program Files directory now (Silencer Launchpad and Silencer Level Designer). Had I known this info, I wouldn't have used that installer in the first place, I never install games on my C: drive in Windows, I use a separate partition for that. Ah, I made it so easy to use its TOO simple. Unfortunetly turning on the GUI seems to for really break the MSI. You should be able to use the MSI and then move the C:\program files\silencer folder anywhere, just remember to adjust the shortcuts. But silencer only takes up 25 meg, and it does make an entry in Add/remove programs so I thought it was an acceptable solution. If you prefer you can use the older installer (.exe format) but it will have the older wondll and the silencer exe that popups IE when you close it along with the broken shortcuts. Ah, so the shortcuts were made in your installed folder for designer and launchpad? They werent for me, I could never get that feature to work on my systems. Interesting. That was one of the things I went in and tampered with after DISCO. (It is a BIOTCH to go back and edit an MSI once you've done the DISCO). I'll make a hover help tip on the file regarding the install procedure on my website, thanks for the feedback. I'll also make a wrapper for the MSI that tells you what is going on so you won't think it failed when you get no feedback. *EDIT* Gui added in new version (Dec 9 2007).
